About Draftforge
Building Surveyor-Led Residential Design & Planning Consultancy
Draftforge is a residential architectural design and planning consultancy serving homeowners across Bristol.
Led by a qualified Building Surveyor with specialist knowledge in building pathology and historic buildings, Draftforge was established to provide structured, policy-aware design solutions focused on securing planning approval efficiently and professionally.
Our approach combines technical understanding with practical design to ensure proposals are realistic, compliant and ready for construction.
Clear, Structured Drawing Packages
Planning applications are assessed against policy and reviewed alongside numerous other submissions. Clarity is essential.
Drawing packages are carefully structured for straightforward comparison, with existing and proposed designs presented in consolidated A2 sheets including elevations, floor plans and site layout. This allows planning officers to quickly understand what is changing — without navigating excessive or fragmented drawing sets.
The result is a focused, decision-ready submission that supports efficient assessment from the outset.
Rendered visuals can be provided if required, following completion of the proposed design stage.
Our Approach
Our approach is built around clarity, preparation and policy awareness. Applications are structured to anticipate potential concerns and address them proactively, aligning proposals with local authority guidance from the beginning.
This organised and strategic method has consistently secured approvals efficiently — including a large two-storey extension within a conservation area approved in just four weeks.
Technical Understanding Beyond Drawings
Unlike volume-based drawing services, Draftforge is grounded in building surveying principles. This provides a deeper understanding of:
-
Building construction and structural behaviour
-
Defects and building pathology
-
Heritage fabric and traditional materials
-
Practical buildability and site constraints
This technical foundation allows us to prepare proposals that are not only visually appropriate, but technically sound and aligned with planning policy.
Experience with Historic & Conservation Properties
With postgraduate study in the Conservation of the Historic Environment and ongoing involvement with historic building projects, Draftforge provides informed and sensitive design solutions for:
-
Listed buildings
-
Conservation area properties
-
Period dwellings
-
Change of use projects
We recognise the importance of careful intervention when working with heritage assets and their surroundings.
A Structured, Professional Approach
Our focus is clarity and process.
Every project follows a defined structure:
